Beyond the Finish Line: Perseverance in Life and on the Ironman Course

35 Ironman finishes. One powerful truth about never giving up.

You know what it feels like to stand at the edge of something that terrifies you. Maybe it is a career change at 50, a dream everyone says is too late, or a challenge so overwhelming you wonder why you even signed up. You have stared down doubt, exhaustion, and the voice that whispers you are not enough. Whether the finish line is a race, a degree, a new chapter in life, or simply getting through the day, the distance between where you are and where you want to be can feel impossible.

In Beyond the Finish Line: Perseverance in Life and on the Ironman Course, Dr. John P. Wilson draws on his extraordinary experience as a 35-time Ironman finisher and age-group triathlete to reveal the striking parallels between conquering a 140.6-mile race and navigating life’s toughest seasons. From freezing on the shores of Lake Tahoe at 26 degrees to earning his doctorate and launching a new career in his fifties, Dr. Wilson shares hard-won wisdom about faith, family sacrifice, planning, and the relentless pursuit of goals that others call unreachable. This is not a book just for triathletes. It is for anyone who needs a reason to keep going.
