THE BLIND PAINTER

When acclaimed composer Silas Doendel is found dead in his secluded studio in the mountains of Rio Grande do Sulhis retinas surgically cauterized by a high-intensity beam of light and a single paintbrush driven into his chestsuspicion immediately falls upon his wife, Clotilde. An internationally renowned avant-garde painter, Clotilde was in the antechamber, painting the same all-black canvas over and over with deafening, mechanical strokes, when the military police broke down the door. Since the night of the crime, she has not uttered a single word and refuses to open her eyesor perhaps she has simply lost the ability to focus on reality.
As the case makes national headlines and drives up the market value of both her past and posthumous works, Sandro Eptoela renowned neurologist and expert in visual perception disorderssecures exclusive authorization to evaluate Clotilde at a medium-security clinic surrounded by fog and vineyards in the country’s south. Sandro seeks not only to unravel what transpired in the shadows of the studio; he is obsessed with proving that Clotilde’s mutism and refusal to see the world are the ultimate response to the suffocating psychological control Silas exerted over her art.
However, as Sandro delves into Clotilde’s unfinished canvases and diaries, he realizes that the darkness in which she has cloistered herself conceals a terrifying truth: what she destroyed was not merely her tormentor’s vision, but the sole witness to something far worse lurking within the walls of that house.
