Three individual volumes with numerous contributors, all profusely illustrated, primarily with photographs. The years covered are 1567 through 1968.

Content warning: there are several instances of racial violence pictured and described, including photographs of lynchings.

Light soiling at page edges, corners bumped and rubbed, with some rubbing to spine ends as well. A few scuffs to boards across the three volumes. Overall all about VG / VG-. Great reference set.
